This was a great story. Reading about this boy's perolous journey really made me think on how the war affected all kinds of people. And how after working so hard and walking so far he couldn't make it to Switzerland broke my heart. I wonder we're that piano might be now after almost 70 years. Or what happened to Samuel. What happened to Joel is a great representation of how the Nazis took away everything the Jews loved. But I feel great knowing hat he made it through all the war and death against so many odds.

I agree, it was very interesting. The rebels using him as a messenger was really smart. And how he would trick them making them think he was French. It was a true stroke of luck that the rebels would attack the same camp he was in to escape.
DeleteI agree it was interesting to see all the things David did to escape. Reading about all the obstacles he had to go through at such a young age. That made me realize that the Nazis are cold hearted people that don't care if your a child, disabled, pregnant etc. they will kill, beat you and harm you until your dead. David fought till the end and accomplished greater things.
DeleteDavid is what you'd called resilient.
DeleteThis was an amazing story. Reading about This boy’s life made me think about all the things we take for granted that others have to fight for. Although he didn’t make it to Switzerland he formed part of the Resistance group that practically saved his life. I could imagine the loneliness, sadness and desperation that David was going through. Not knowing what was going to happen to his parents or grandparents, if he ever was going to see them again or what was going to be his future from that day forward. It takes a true act of valor for someone that young taking that long journey up to Switzerland taking the risks nature was about to give him and risking getting caught by the Nazis. Im so glad that David survived the war and got reunited with the only family members he had left.
ReplyDelete-I Wont Let the Nazi Take Me! Nathalie Soriano
I totally agree, this story shows that with faith and will anything can be accomplished.Dave fought till the end to survive no matter the circumstances he confront. He try even what seem impossible to survive.Every time he fail, the memories of his family help him to kept trying to accomplish his final goal.!HE SURVIVED!
DeleteI totally agree with you, David was such a brave boy that never gave up. He is an example that even if you are young and alone you can still make it. With only 13 years old, he had survived without his loved ones. He also, show us that we have to feel happy and lucky that with have our parents with us. Davis is an amazing human that inspire a lot of people.

DeleteIn my opinion this story was kind of tragic and heartbreaking. By only Gideon having his mother and sister killed in front of him was enough to tear down a young boy. During this war people had to do even the impossible to keep themselves alive. That took the courage and disposition that Gideon had he agreed to pretend about his beliefs and be a whole different person. Paulina, Jozef and Jan accepted to take care of Gideon knowing the risks they were taking. Herzog took care throughout the miserable, sadness and heartbreak upon Gideon. That shows that by how cold and harsh you may seem you will care and protect for others no matter the consequences and that you’ll always look for that person’s safety and in this case that was up to Herzog because Gideon didn’t have any family member around. This is a gesture of kindness and loyalty not only to Gideon but to her mother, sister and father who were not able to look out for him during this horrible time. I truly liked this story so much it represents a true fighter.
ReplyDelete-Run! Run for Your Lives! Nathalie Soriano
I agree with you , this was very tragic since its not right to see your mother and sister die . And i also agree that what Paulina , jozef and Jan did for Gideon was an act of bravery since they took care of a child that didin't had no one to support him at that time . They treated him with love and provided the little they had for him . They all helped each other in some way.
DeleteI agree with you; reading this story was very heartbreaking. I also agree with the part on loyalty; other than the fact that he was kind and bestowed love and care upon him, he was being very loyal to Gideon and also to his late family by taking care of their only living legacy. I liked when you said it represents a true fighter, because under normal circumstances, no one would be able to even wake up to see a new day after the traumatic loss of his or her family, and for Gideon to still keep on fighting, along with the good Samaritans that helped him out, was heart warming. I know now that there will always be kind people, even in the darkest and saddest land; and that just that thought can give one hope.
DeleteThis story was very heartbreaking to read. This little boy, Gideon, had to go through so much horrid things. Things like the separation from his father, seeing her mother and sister die, seeing other people die, suffering from extreme cold and hunger and many other things. And to think that he was only seven years old. And also the people that helped him after they thought he had no family were very hospitalary to take this child as their own. Even knowing that he could bring up trouble if they found out he was Jewish. But In general I really loved this story.
ReplyDelete-Run! Run for Your Lives! Gabriela Yañez
I completely agree with you. Gideon went through so much but he was very brave. He learned to overcome everything that happened and just live the life he was forced to live. He was young but at the same time he was a warrior.

I think that this story was very sad. First because the Nazis took away from this family their music. Then he had to be separated from his family and sent to an orphanage. Next he escaped on a journey to Switzerland left to nobody's mercy. And to be so close of his goal and not to reach it must have been heartbreaking. And also to loose the only thing that reminded him of his father must have been hard too. At least he got reunited with part of his family and made it out alive.
ReplyDelete-I Won't Let the Nazis Take Me! Gabriela Yañez
I agree, the story is quite sad. David was left to wander around, alone. It is very hard to be without your family, specially when you're young. He must've felt so lonely and scared...Luckily he was able to overcome everything.

This story was amazing and sad.David Wolkowitz who was only thirteen years of age had to confront the problems of the world all by itself. The faith and will always help him keep on with his hard and suffering journey.David tried even the impossible to survive no matter the circumstances.Even though when he fail as the situation he was near Switzerland and returned back, David didn't gave up.He fought till the end at the point he joined the Resistance Fighters. With out any doubt this was the best idea because they were the people who save him from being killed by the Germans. The memories of his family was the key of accomplishing his goal of surviving.

ReplyDeleteThis story was interesting . Reading about a boy that went through a lot of challenges just for his freedom makes you appreciate the life you live . Even though he didin't get to his objective that was Switzerland , he kept looking for new alternatives to survive . He joined a Resistance group that helped him . The sad part was that he went through a lot of challenges having faith that his mother and his father (his music) were still alive , when sadly , they were killed . This makes you realize that the Jewish kids suffered a lot . At least at the age of 16 , David , with help from a soldier , went to the United States and he reunited with his aunt and uncle .
ReplyDelete-I Won't Let The Nazis Take Me ! Bryan Cortes
I'm in complete agreement with you. People now days don't realize that their problems are nothing compared to what these people had to face. People now days feel like they should die for dumb reasons, but look at this kid. His father and relatives died in a war, he was alone, he saw death and chaos everywhere he went, but now days he is willing to live. He is still willing to live even though he lost everything and had nothing to look forward too, and that will to live, that promise, is what gave him and many other Holocaust survivors a successful and bright future.
DeleteI totally agree with your response regarding being grateful about the life we live. It is sad that people these days want to die for the most useless reasons because things don't go their way. Knowing David's story, makes one absolutely grateful for life. If David could treasure his life so much, why can't us? It is very unfair for us to be thinking on the negative aspects of our lives, instead of being happy and content with what we have, and the democratic society we're living in today
DeleteThis story was sad . Gideon's life was difficult . At the age of seven , he sees his mother and sister die . That day was a very painful day for this kid. Thanks to the help of Jozef , Paulina and Jan , Gideon survived . These people took care of him when at the time he didin't have no one to support him . They gave the boy food and shelter . They even took the risk of taking care of him knowing that he was jewish and if they get caught , they would have serious consequences . I like this story because the jews did everything to help other jews in need .
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you.Its shocking how a boy at an age so young as Gideon can suffered so much. All child's at that age play with his friends, but Gideon didn't.Gideon life was filled of sacrifices that with the help of Josef,Paulina and Jan were accomplished .This three angels gave Gideon whatever he needed.Although all the situations, Gideon survive and reunited with his father.
DeleteAs in my reaction to the story, I think that what the Jewish like David and many other people had to go through was incredibly harsh and cruel. It wasn't fair for anyone at all, what point was there in killing innocent people? Some decided to rebel and run away (escape) but that was like a suicide mission most of the time. David and his father loved music,it's incredible that they couldn't even keep playing, just because the Nazis prohibited it, instead, they were forced to do hard jobs. It was terrible that the Jews and the people in the concentration camps were separated from their family, the love, the mercy, and the compassion. This story was good and kind of sad at the same time,I just wanted to keep reading. Finally, David's bravery and courage impressed me and it's sad that he lost his dad's instrument, the only thing he had to remember his father forever. -I won't let the Nazis take me! -Andrea A. Acevedo
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, this was very sad. And to not let them play music just because the Nazis said so is just wrong. Also that journey must have not been easy and to be so close and not reach his goal must be heartbreaking. But at least he fought to the end and made it out alive.
DeleteWe have to understand that being ruled by Hitler was no easy task and he was merciless. One of the many bad things that the kids in the Holocaust had to do was live without their parents. This story caused quite an impact on me. I may say that Gideon was scarred for life since his mother and sister were murdered or killed right in front of him. Even though Gideon went through so many terrible situations he was given to a really nice family who took care of him while he needed it. Gideon was courageous enough to pretend that he wasn't Jewish and he also fought for his rights, he didn't let his fears get the best of him. This story was incredibly interesting and sad at the same time, Gideon represents a warrior and finally, I hope that something so bad and cruel like the Holocaust doesn't ever happen again. -Run! Run For Your Lives~ Andrea A. Acevedo
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. Gideon was a fighter. Being so young and loosing his mother and sister in such a tragic was really hard on this child. But I'm glad he was one of the few jews that survived the Holocaust because children and teenagers are the future of the world and why would someone murder the future in the present just because of its race?

ReplyDeleteThis story is truly amazing. I can't imagine myself with 15 years going through the same things David went through when he has 13. I'm really glad David survived, even though it was really tough. I loved how the story narrates what happened to David while trying to survive and at the same time explaining his past. I felt the sadness that David possibly felt when Joel's fingers got blown off. He couldn't do what he loved to do most anymore. I was really glad to know that David met kind people who were willing to help him survive this awful event, even though they were risking their lives. I'm proud of David for being brave and the people who took care of him during and after the Holocaust. -I won't let the Nazis take me!
ReplyDeleteI let out tears when reading this story. I can't imagine this boy shaking his mother and sister desperately, trying to bring them back to life. It's such a tragic and awful scene. This child just being shot and not noticing becase of the shock of the bombings is truly heartbreaking. I couldn't bear what that child went through. But even harder for him was pretending to be someone he wasn't for years just to stay alive. I think that Herzog has a big heart since he took care of Gideon and went back to a village to find a shelter for the child. I'm glad that at the end, Gideon returned to his father. The only he had left, was now with him. -Run! Run for your lives!

ReplyDelete"I won't let the Nazis take me" is a sad story that inspired me so much. David's story made a big impact on me because of everything he went through. For 15 years, he suffer and saw thing a boy his age shouldn't see. He couldn't enjoy his childhood and had to go through so much for such a short age. Even if his life was hard he never gave up and always kept going. He was very brave and did everything in his power to survive. After, all the time that had passed his parents never once left his mind. This story made me realize that sometimes we don't appreciate the things we have and we take them for granted. We should be happy that we are lucky enough to have a family because David would have given anything to be with his parents right now. David was a boy that never gave up his beliefs and culture just because the Nazis thought it was wrong. - I won't let the Nazis take me.
I totally agree with you. I think that David for his age he suffered a lot and saw things he shouldn't see for a short age. I admired him because he never gave up and was very brave. We have to appreciate the people and the things we have.
DeleteGideon's life was really difficult and heartbreaking. He was only a little boy when he saw his mother and sister died. This boy had to see how many people suffer and died during the war. Gideon was too young to have gone through so many things in his short life. One of the things, I like the most about this story is how Jozef and Paulina risk their life's and took care of him. They treated him as one of their own. Another important person in this story is Herzog. That man did everything in his power to protect that boy and keep him in a safe place. One of the things that impact me the most, was all the people that died on the Stare Hory massacre. Even the people that were injured couldn't be saved since, they didn't had doctors or medicines. I really like this story because in the end Gideon could be himself again and reunite with his father. - Run! Run for your lives!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. Gideon's story was sad and difficult for a boy his age. But the way Jozef, Paulina and Herzog were willing to help him throught the situation even if it meant risking their life was something very sweet and brave. And I think that Gideon was quite a lucky kid because not every kid in his situation had people to care for them or had the opportunity to be reunited with their father.
DeleteReading this story my heart break. To see all the thing such a young boy had to go through. How he saw people die and suffer. How he had to over come the death of his mother and sister alone while trying to survive. At moments I tried to think what would I do in this kind of situation, but I couldn't imagine the kind of suffering he had to go through. Losing your mother and having to live with a couple you've just met is something very difficult. Not knowing if these people will give you in or actually take you as their own is something that wouldn't let me sleep at night. But at the end when the couple actually cared for him and he reunited with his father I felt really happy. Though his dad died a year later, getting to see him after something like everything they lived through is not something that happen often to other kids in his situation.
ReplyDelete-Run! Run for your lives!
I agree with you. It was so sad that he was only seven years old and he lost his mother and his sister. But what really made me love this little boy was that they were killed right there in front of his eyes, yet he continued his journey trying to survive. If it was me I would also have the uncertainty about living with this strangers and not knowing of they're going to help me or turn me in. I was very glad he got the opportunity to reunite with his father, though he died a year later. And mostly I felt proud that he could overcome all he went through and become a professional.
DeleteThis story was a very inspiring story. How a boy how barely had anything overcome everything to survive. The way he took all those difficult decision to save his life and how he was willing to do anything to survive really helped me understand that sometimes the difficult decisions you make are the one that will help you survive, no matter how hard the situation is. Another really inspiring thing about David is how he never putted his culture aside or tried to hide it just because his life depended on it. The way he decided to fight is something a lot of people this days should learn from him. I could really identify with him because for me music is very important and to see how music influenced his life and how important it was to him and his family and how it was taken away from them really touched me. But apart anything, how he decided to join Resistance group is a very brave act not everyone, even less, boys his age would have even considered.
ReplyDeleteI won't let the Nazis take me!
This story touched my heart. Even though was young he never gave up. David was a strong boy after being raised in an orphanage. I think that is the worst experience in life and even worst that the Nazis came to take all the Jewish children. At such a young age David passed threw the worst experiences. He inspired me because he never lose hope and was fighting against everything in his life to be a better person. If I had to pass threw what he passed I think I couldn't be able to handle it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. He was alone, he had nobody. And I know if we were the ones in that situation we wouldn't handle it the way he did.He was super brave and courageous, even though he was alone he survived and that is something to admired.
DeleteThis story was very had to believe. To think that a young boy with only seven years old cant play at the streets with his neighbors because he is with fear to other children to throw him rocks and called him names. He suffered a lot because of the lost of his mom and his sister, it was a big impact for him. In this short life he has seen things that now in my age I haven't seen. I think is hard for him to try to be ok although he isn't. At least know is with the only person he has left, with his father. I am happy and very grateful that I have the privilege to live now and not in those times.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you. It's like a horror movie, that poor, little and inoscent kid suffering so much. He was very brave cause, passing through all those horrible things just to survive. But he wasn't alone that's the god part right? He had Herzog, he protected him. Im happy too that we have privilege to live in these days.
DeleteThis was a very heartbreaking story. This little boy passes through very difficult thing. It’s very sad cause even though he was only seven years old he was very mature for his age. This story made me realize about how though the life was for this children. The Nazis didn’t care if you were a kid or not, they were heartless. Is very hard for a kid to life and suffer so much. This story made me think very deep and, that are the things you do to survive…I guess. In those days kids had to be very mature, to be able to make those sacrifices. If you compare the kids of that time with the kids of our time, the differences of mentality, and the way of thinking about life is very shocking, cause in those times you have to be mature enough to understand those situations and know how to act in a moment of desperation when you are choosing from living in torture and suffering or your instantly death.

I totally agree with you, I was in shock to see the maturity of these children, something that in this time most people don't have. As you said it must be difficult for them to understand all that was happening. I was also heartbroken when i read this stories because it hurts me to know how many people died during this awful time. It made me think of lots of things and made me appreciate what I have.
DeleteThis story was a little shocking. The poor David suffers so much. It’s very impacting because he fights for his freedom and he never forgot his origin. He always had in mind the memory of his parents, and that's something very sweet and nice. He was very intelligent because even though he had no-one and nothing he always keep forward never give up and survive and I know that if it was me on that situation I don’t think I would make it through just one night alone. That's an act of valor cause for his young age, with only thirteen years he survived alone and found freedom and hope on the United States. Even though he suffers a lot, he got married, and had a family. He managed to become a professional in music and he became the voice of those people that lost their lives defending their traditions and believes.

This story is very sad.Gideon with only seven years of age passed through things and situations that even a adult cant be able to handle. He was a brave boy who affront the situation and didn't panic,no matter what the other kids said he was proudly a Jew.Gideon made all series of sacrifices to save his mother and her sister. Unfortunately they didn't survive, but all this gave Gideon the maturity to keep going and survive, because his father was waiting and fighting for him.I cant imagine how this Nazis didn't care about the child's,women etc. They just killed every one who didn't had the same politic or religious thoughts. In those days the kids suffered to much, they didn't deserved none of this.Gideon deserved to play with his friends as any other human been can. I think we should always thank for our life and what we had.If i ever live on those days I am sure I wouldn't survived....

This story made me open my eyes and see the truth about his tragedy. We hear, see and read about this stuff, but no matter how confused or sad we feel about this, none of it compares to what the Jews felt. We think this happened so long ago and that it only affected adults, but it didn't; it was barely 70 years ago and it affected everyone, women, men and sadly, children. To think that after everything David went through while having to be separated from his parents, to find out that he has to leave the place he's thought he's finally be save in must be devastating. I cannot even begin to try and understand what he must have felt. I admire his courage and his commitment in surviving and getting out of that situation. And I am happy that he found a home in the US with his aunt, uncle and cousins, and that he married and made a family of his own. But most of all I am happy he didn't forget what he went through and that he uses his experiences with the Holocaust to set an example and to speak for those who lost their voices.

This child proved to be resilient. I truly believe we all have a little of this within.
DeleteI think that out of all the stories we've read about the Holocaust, this one touched me the most. It was heart- breaking to read about all the horrible things this boy, Gideon, had to see and endure at such a young age. He was only seven years old, yet he was so mature. I couldn't imagine going through something like that and handling it the way he did. I can not believe people were so blinded by hate that they didn't care they were killing so many people including innocent children. This story made me realize all the things we take for granted now a days. We complain about the most stupidest things and demand so much. Yet there were, and still are, so many people out there that wish they had a fraction of the liberty and benefits we enjoy. I think that if we put ourselves in the shoes of someone like little Gideon, or anyone who went through something like this, we would think twice about complaining and be more grateful of what we have.

ReplyDeleteI've never truly understood the pain felt by the people who lived during the Holocaust during this time, until I read some of these stories. I had the courage to put myself in the place of these people and understand all the difficult things that happened. I had empathy and put myself in their place and come to feel minimum pain and suffering they endured. I was heartbroken to know all that these families had to move so that in most cases end up dying and effort not to look. I know how much it hurt children were separated from their families and even more it hurt me to see that they were young children who were just beginning to live. Definitely this was one of the stories that moved me more, so much that I felt my tears falling. I just admire those people who managed to escape and survive this harsh and tragic war.

I know we would never feel the pain that all the jews felt during the holocaust. It's a heartbreaking story as you mention to know how this families suffered from this inhumanity and injustice from part of the Nazis. I agree with you, this children had to live suffering from so young. Also I admire the people that had the courage and the bravery to survive.

ReplyDeleteThis story was very shocking to me and I was surprised to see the great courage that this child had throughout his life. Despite his young age he had maturity and I was heartbroken to see all the little Gideon went through. I was teary-eyed just thinking about all the suffering he and his family spent. But it hurt me even more to see that the Nazis killed people for no reason. Just because they were not "perfect" like them. They had no mercy on anyone, not even the children who had no fault. I can not imagine the great harm that all these people were, in this case Gideon who had to go through a lot. I was surprised how well they knew how to handle the situation, which I had not been able to do. This story made me appreciate my freedom and all that I have and I'm sure these people would die just to have a little freedom and that us often do not appreciate.

"I won't let the Nazis take me!"
ReplyDelete- First of all, both of these stories were equally shocking. The way the author narrates, describes, and gives details about the events made me feel as if I myself were experiencing them. The first story, the one about a thirteen-years old boy named David Wolkowitz, was both terrible and frustrating. I can't imagine the amount of sorrow and loneliness he felt when he was informed that none of his parents or relatives survived the war. Although his young age, he had the courage and valour to fight for his freedom and his right to live. Everyday he had to face starvation, diseases, and many other inhuman occurrences that brought him face to face with death itself. He didn't give up, even though he was sure that the chances of survival were minimum. I felt pity and sorry for him, but at the same time, deep admiration. David was able to overcome his past and start a completely new life in the United States, one filled with joy, happiness, and success.
"Run, run for your lives"
ReplyDelete-This story is about a seven years old boy called Gideon Frieder. At first he was too young and innocent to realize that he and his family were in mortal danger, but as the story went through he realized that this wasn't a game, but a serious matter. This story had a big impact on me, and in my opinion, it's the one with more feelings. I couldn't get off of my head the picture of Gideon crying and shaking his mother's and sister's lifeless bodies. Nobody had the heart to tell him the truth about their death. Although he already knew it, he just didn't want to believe it. I admired Herzog's act of kindness though. He took good care of the child, and even brought him to a new house so the peasant family living in it could protect him while the remaining survivors kept their long, exhausting and almost impossible to survive journey to the borders of Germany. The family, although being menaced to death if the boy died, took good care of him and the young siblings quickly made a warm, welcoming bond with the boy. I was pleased to see that after the war he and his father were reunited, and even though his father Rabbi died a year later, Gideon now lives a happy and successful life with his three sons and two grandsons in Slovakia.
I truly hope all of you can have empathy for the victims as well as for the survivors of the dark moment in history.
DeleteRun! Run for your Lives!
ReplyDeleteThis story just reading the first pages caused myself to be upset and sad about all the things that happened to Gideon in this story. It’s life changing just seeing your mother and sister dying during your survival. Seeing your mother die it’s enough to break a young boy mentally and also emotionally. In my opinion he went growing and understanding in what danger she and her family was, and it’s not her fault. In this story you can appreciate how other Jews tried to make the impossible to help other Jews. The only good experience he had was when the couple took care of him and when he reunited with his dad. If I were Gideon, I would be very thankful to Herzog because of the help I took and also to the people that risked their lives to protect me. I admire Gideon, and I accept that it would be impossible for me to live all the experiences he had to go through.
“I won’t let the Nazis take me”
ReplyDeleteThis story about David was something unbelievable and shocking. It’s just something not tolerable by any human, suffering without doing any crime or something bad. When I read this story it makes me think and give thanks to God that my family and me didn’t to need suffer from this. It makes people open their eyes and know that what the Nazis did was something bad. David as a 13 year old had to suffer at a young age from malnutrition and starvation also being exposed always to diseases. It’s tragic also because the moment he hopes that the grandparents and parents aren’t dead, the worker from the Red Cross gave him the bad news that both were dead but hopefully he has the remaining uncle and cousins in the United States. Finally, it’s something impressive because with only 13 years he’s bravery and he’s desire to have a normal family again kept him alive.
He was brave too. He kept going even when it was hopeless. Also finished with a great life in the end. He may have suffered but he persevered.

ReplyDeleteThis story was sad and inspirational to me. To see how someone with such a long journey and facing hardships head on. It impressed me that even though his parents had to send him to an orphanage he persevered at such a young age. Also when he planned to leave as soon as he got news there was going to be a raid, he left immediately. I understand he had to do it to survive. I wonder if he gave thought to his leaving would mean losing any communication with his parents. His father a talented musician fired to then attend a job being a shoe repairman that wouldn't allow him to play his instruments, that made me sad thinking that such a successful man was forced to go so low because of the hate the Germans had towards the Jews. I wonder what ever happened to his father's violin.
Run run for your lives
ReplyDeleteIt seemed terrible to see a young lad go thorough that much pain and hardship.
He lost his mother and sister at the same time. I couldn't deal with losing my family like that. Even though he went through so much he had to continue. His father as a highly political individual and a threat to the Germans, knew would bring danger to his family . Like any other devoted father and husband, he needed to protect his family, that is why he visited them so little and tried to protect the anyway he could. I am sure everyone can understand that. Gideon at first seemed like any other normal child but the Holocaust changed him.
This story was truly heartbreaking. At the age of 13 he managed to survive all the terrible situations he had to go through. I think nobody deserve to lose the ones they love at such a short age. Spite of all the pain, he persevered and never gave up. He was such a brave boy and even though he didn't make it he did survive. Sometimes we don't appreciate the things we have, especially our family. We have to always be thankful because we are such fortunate kids to have a loving family and a plate of food everyday. David in the other hand all he wanted was the love of is family and to be reunited with his parents who sadly died in the arms of the Nazis. It was such a sad and inspirational story.
ReplyDelete- I won' let the Nazis take me! Juleiska Troche
One of the saddest stories so far. Gideon was such an innocent child, he didn't understand the fact that he had lost his family. His mother and sister were killed in front of his face, something nobody should see and go through. He was left alone with only 7 years old in the hands of some partisan. The brutality of the Nazis had no limits, how could they destroy the innocence and the childhood of a kid. Even though he was under the protection of a family he would never be the same. He lost his family, his innocence, his life, his childhood but most of all who he was. Gideon would never be the same anymore.
ReplyDeletei strongly agree with you. Even though gideon lost his mom and sister in the end he still had his dad and he had survived.
DeleteGideon received protection and even kindness from these strangers.

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion "I Wont Let The Nazis Take Me!" was a very sad story. I often felt as if I was in the story from how detailed it is. The fact that David had the courage at the age of 13 to go out not knowing what he was getting himself into was very surprising to me because people don't usually do that. What really hit me was how things were back then. These poor jews lived with fear 24/7 day by day never having peace. What really broke my heart was how David struggled so much to get to Swtizerland and not making it. Finally, I thought this story was going to end diffrently because of what happened earlier in the book.
ReplyDeleteI too felt that I was in the story. For me it was different because I don't really read books but this one change my way of thinking. It really impacted me because he was alone and still survived. I think everybody has the same right to live we are all humans and we are not supposed to be judged by society.

ReplyDelete~ To me this story was very sad. This little 7 Year old boy couldn't walk on certain streets because other boys would throw rocks at him and call him names. This was very shocking because you don't usually see this around my neighborhood. Slovakia passed a law and sent Jews to coincentration camps and death camps. While on their way to Stare Hory Valley Germans that were on planes attacked them and killed Gideon's mother and sister. Another thing that was difficult for Gideon was that he had to change his name and follow the same beliefs as the catholics. In the end Gideon reunited with his father who had now been married to a women whos husband died in the war.
I personally agree with you. For me it too was a very shocking and sad story. Still at the end he was lucky that his father was alive and were reunited. people shouldn't be judged like they were.
DeleteGood.
DeleteI Wont Let The Nazis Take Me
ReplyDeleteIt was really hard to me to beleive what David had to pass through only for him to survive. This story gave me a lesson of what we have and we still dont like it. One of the only things this kid wanted its to have Abraham and Regine to be alive and we want to have some electronic thing. This put me to think that we need to be more greatfull for what we have and give thanks to God for everything. The other thing that shock me was how he could stand at his young age somebody telling him that both his grandparents were murdered and thats being a strong guy. But at least as somebody said he ended up alive

ReplyDeleteAnother story that is hard for me to understand how this people could be living with this persecutions. So you can see that bullying didn't started today it was years ago and it was worst. Another thing that was really hard was that Gideon will be thrown rocks just for passing by the street. Imagine that if we passed by the street people will throw us rocks that wouldnt be nice. And that you would have to change everything of your life because somebody said so. But at least he could reunite with his father and not founding his father dead.

Deletei wont let the Nazis take me was a very impacting story. It makes me think that we should appreciate the things we have. Sometimes we whine about the things we have, but he didn't even have his family. This story really change the way I see and think about our way of life. One thing that made my heart ache was when the other boy was laying against the wall and couldn't play his flute because they had blown off. This story drove me into the book because of so many details it had. He suffered a lot by having to see so many people die just because of their religion.
ReplyDeleteRun! Run for your lives
ReplyDeleteAt first it was sad because Gideon was to small to notice that he and his family were in danger. I think his family was a bright man just for sending them to another place. Besides the danger he still decided to stand up to what he believed in. Even though he sent them away for their own safety they still suffered along the way. They constantly had to move because the Germans where to strong for the fighters. At the end Gideon was reunited with his father. I still think that it was a tragic experience for kids and adults.
Reading 'I won't let the Nazis take me' saddened me. I cannot imagine losing so much in such a short period of time without going crazy and giving up hope. Reading about how David never lost hope gave me goosebumps, and impacted me in a positive way. Imagining myself in his shoes made me think about how fragile life is, and how it should never be taken for granted. Also, reading about his father's loss in the music industry was depressing because it is horrible to be forced to stop doing what you love. His happiness was in playing his instruments, and for that to be taken away, along with his family must have been horrible. I hope I never get to go through that kind of crisis, and I thank God I haven't gone through that. Knowing these brave children's stories is what will inspire and motivate us to be a better people regarding race, discrimination, never losing hope and fighting until the very end.
ReplyDelete'Run! Run for your lives!' had to be the saddest chapter of the whole book. Reading and imagining how Gideon must have felt watching his family members die was horrendous. I had goosebumps throughout the whole story, and was very close to tears; which isn't a normal thing. I normally have neutral feelings when I read, but reading this story canceled that out, for sure. My heart broke for Gideon, because experiencing such a thing at the tender age of seven is beyond sad. Also, knowing how Pauina, Josef, and Jan received him with open arms, knowing that they could be caught in their kind hospitality act, gave me a profound feeling. The Holocaust might have devastated so many lives, but at the same time, it gave a lot of people a wake up call, on how to treat their fellow neighbors. Taking the risk to save the poor child impacted me so much. I hope if I ever live to be in such a crisis, I will be able to do the same thing; without batting an eyelash.
